Firbeck Airfield Memorial Project Build Pogress
Core construction - 30/07/11
Saturday 30th July. Noel Ryan, Simon Craine, Luke Shaw and self assembled on site to begin cosntruction of the inner core of the cairn. A good day in which everything went to plan and made ready for the stone cladding over the following weeks. Further details and updates can be found at the Firbeck Airfield Memorial web site. Unveiling and dedication gallery here.
Stone-getting etc. - 06/08/11
Saturday 6th August saw a small team gather to collect stone and mark up the memorial for the plaque. The previous evening saw the removal of the shuttering.
Cladding - 10/08/11-14/08/11
The next phase was to hand over the stone mason, Russ Briscoe, for the final part of the actual build. Working evenings and weekends, Russ has done a grand job of getting it exactly right. Before the stone is wrapped over the top lip of the core, Noel Ryan and self added a black border to frame the plaque, instead of leaving it bare concrete!
Last Stages - 23/08/11 - 24/08/11
The final stages of the build included a general site tidy. We also took delivery of and fitted the plaque
