Fairey Battle I L5499/BH-Y, 300 (Mosavia) Sqn, RAF Winthorpe - 13th October 1940
Foxcovert Plantation, near Claverton.
On returning from operations against Boulogne, two aircraft from 300 Sqn became lost in poor weather and reported enemy aircraft in the Winthorpe area. With darkness falling the pilot of L5499, Flying Officer Gebicki, attempted a forced landing but crashed in poor visibility, killing all on board. The second aircraft, Battle L5427/BH-K, also crashed but with no fatalities at Sherwood, Notts.
